Trip to Nerja April 17 to 21 in 2011

Mel came to celebrate my  birthday and  together with  Ron we went to spend five days in Nerja, in the south of  Spain.  It caught us with the Holy Week celebration then celebrated April 17 to April 21.

Mel and I left Madrid on Sunday after taking an early breakfast at home.  We met Ron at the Atocha train station. It was sunny and a beautiful spring day. The trip to Nerja from Malaga by Ave  took almost three hours and we arrived on schedule to Malaga to pick up a rented car from the same station to go to Nerja. It was almost time for lunch so we found our way to the best paella restaurant by the beach.  It is called “Ayo”.

It was an “Eat all you can” paella. You just have to bring your plate for a refill as much as you can. Seating was quite caotic since you have to get your own table and wait until a table is ready. But it was worth the waiting since the paella was really good and at a very moderate price, only 6.50 Euros. We had mixed salad with the paella and Ron had three full plates, while I was full with one and Mel tried a little.

Soon after lunch, we took a walk by the beach for a quick look.  It was peaceful and there were some bathers inspite of the waves and the cold sea. It was a little cloudy but nice.

It  did not take us  too long before we got tired and had to look  for our  rented apartment, which is owned by a Filipina I know who  rented it to us for a 35€/day, a real bargain. It is just about five minutes away from the beach and about ten minutes to the center. Not bad, with two bedrooms and a sofa bed in the living room and a comfortable kitchen and a terrace, overlooking the sea.

We had a long siesta, having woke up early and quite tired from the travel. It was good to have a refill of energy. After which, we went out for a walk around the city.
The day started to threaten with rain, but we came ready with jackets and one umbrella.  The sun seemed to come and go perhaps to simply  allow us for a good photo, as I would say.  A blessing indeed.

Accompanied by our friend, Norma, we had some tapas at the popular places in town where they serve excellent tapas at very moderate prices.

Celebrating my 64th birthday was a special event for me. It gave me joy that at this age, I am lucky to have good health, a comfortable life and a family that loves me and cares for me.
